About the event

April 27th 9-4pm & April 28 9-4pm

Learn by building a small stained glass panel using the traditional tools and techniques for

creating a Leaded Stained Glass window as seen in historic periods such as High Gothic,

Carpenter Gothic, Victorian, or Art Nouveau. This Beginner/Intermediate weekend class is a

great addition to shop savvy creators with basic hand tool abilities who want to broaden their

horizons.

Create a zinc frame, infill with cut and shaped colored glass using lead channel called “came” to join glass pieces by following the “lead lines” of a pattern. Then solder the joints to create the armature, and finish of by grouting with the same lime and linseed based recipe used since antiquity.  Be it a traditional design or one of Frank Lloyd Wright or Contemporary offerings students will be guided through an example project, or two, to demonstrate the construction process by picking a pattern to build an 8”X10” sample panel to take home.

Safety is our top priority and awareness of sharp glass and how to correctly handle it along with the awareness of using lead and how to build using safe practices and cleaning procedures.

Please do not take this class if pregnant or breast feeding.

Guest Instructor Christian Jaquith of Granville VT and Troll Hill Studios, home of Jewel Quality Glassworks

Local Vermont Artisan and Ski Patroller Christian Jaquith studied Architecture at Ball State University, (yes, home to the ubiquitous Ball canning jar!) soon coming full circle to compliment his upbringing as a carpenter and life long craftsperson by enjoying most being in a stained glass studio teaching and sharing this fine art. His early exposure to colored glass via his Grandparent’s phantastic kaleidoscope combined with establishing a stained glass studio at home- buttressed by teaching weekend stained glass workshops since the 1900’s at the Yestermorrow Design and Build School in Waitsfield VT, has resulted in seeing the many satisfied smiles from students who successfully join the guild of colored light! Christian is joining the wonderful Day Breaks Glass Studio in Bethel by offering a class in the Leaded Stained Glass technique which will produce durable glass panels suitable for inclusion in any window or

wall opening.
