About the event
Day 1: February 8th, 9am-4pm Gathering, Intro to Mosaic process, Mantras with Lauren and working through your design process. Coffee, tea and scones
Spend the day creating your work of mosaic art. Using a circular substrate and colorful glass, tiles and broken dishware. Mosaic design and implementation.
Day 2: February 9th, 10-1pm Grouting Day (Optional) Join us to Grout your works. If you choose to miss Day 2, we can grout your project for you or send grout home with you. Being present on DAY 2 IS OPTIONAL!
Explore mosaic art through the creation of a beautiful mandala. A mandala is a circle decorated with imagery which directs the mind inward toward a deeper reflection of self or the universe. We will embrace the patterns found in nature as we allow our personal designs to flow and take shape. Through this deeper artistic process we also learn to work with glass and the tools and methods to cut and shape it into various patterns, specifically floral and plant like patterns. We will also complete your artworks with the grouting process.
Mantra and Mandalas is a class for those who want to center themselves and work deeper into meaningful creativity. Traditionally, mandalas are a tool for meditation, allowing us to focus attention and design a purposeful pattern that holds meaning to the individual. Mandalas are often thought to promote self-healing and understanding, making them an energetic practice as well as creative!
While mantra is usually thought of as repetition of Sanskrit prayer, it also translates to continuous reminder of an affirmation or an intention. This class will allow each student to craft their own unique ‘mantra’ through a simple breath work and meditation practice lead by Lauren, and then use this mantra during mandala crafting. At the end of the class, each participant will leave with their own mandala, each piece connecting to a personal mantra and serving as a healing, centering reminder.
